3 Handbag Trends That’ll Reign Supreme In 2022

3 Handbag Trends That’ll Reign Supreme In 2022

Be honest: How many times have you actually worn that floral embroidered cardigan you bought last year? Or perhaps those sleek snakeskin pants in 2019? Oftentimes, you’re not going to opt for the same article of clothing seven days a week. Handbags, on the other hand, are meant to be used daily — because, yes, you’ve experienced the struggle of constantly shuffling all your personal belongings from purse to purse. Therefore, you want to invest in a piece  that’s stylish, but more importantly, practical. Fortunately, the 2022 handbag trends fit an array of lifestyles and fashion preferences, according to the designers behind the industry’s up-and-coming brands.

Jasmin lerix founder and creative director of Los Angel Cult Gaia says woven basket purses will be a sought-after style in the coming year. “[They] are an elevated, nature-inspired, architectural take on the typical straw bags you see every spring and summer,” she tells TZR. “Our artful iteration of this trend is the Avivia, bag which features a basket-like silhouette made from woven rattan which offers a natural, earthful feel and an off-white interior pouch which can be used separately as a clutch for a more refined look,” Larian Hekmat adds.

HOW TO DRESS WELL: THE 5 RULES ALL MEN SHOULD LEARN

HOW TO DRESS WELL: THE 15 RULES ALL MEN SHOULD LEARN

There are enough rules in life as it is. Some, however, are there to help. Like the rules that govern how to dress well. Of course, every man or woman that has an opinion on such things speaks from personal experience – and no doubt what works for one doesn’t always work for another; or what works for one is considered too pedestrian or too avant-garde by another. So, when it comes to dressing, they always have to be taken at face value. They’re solid suggestions rather than the last word on style. But good advice is never to be sniffed at, and, as menswear becomes ever more rich and varied, ever more experimental and abundant, ever more trend-aware, in moments of confusion and self-doubt, it can help to have a valuable fall-back position that cuts through the clutter.

These ‘rules’ tend to be founded in history – they’ve worked for generations, so might well be assumed to work well today too. And they tend to be founded in the obvious, so obvious they’re often overlooked: a preference for good fit, high quality, versatility, good value, lack of extremes and keeping it sober.

There are certainly many other rules out there than are presented here. Some of these you may have already discovered for yourself. That, after all, is part of the pleasure of clothing, which no rule should hamper: trying new kit out, seeing if it suits you, seeing how it makes you feel. But, these rules have stood the test of time and, when used in conjunction, act as a failsafe guide on how to dress well today.

 WEAR A SUIT WELL

The key to a suit looking good is fit. If you’re buying off-the-peg, focus on the fit across the shoulders because getting the chest and waist altered is a relatively easy job according to Davide Taub, head of bespoke suits at Savile Row tailor Gieves & Hawkes. “Be cautious about wearing a period suit unless you’re pursuing a total period look because in isolation the suit starts to look like a novelty,” he adds. Classic is best and most useful – dark, two-button, single-breasted, moderate in details. “It’s not boring. A suit is a uniform. The idea is to think of this suit as a canvas to build different ideas of individuality around. It’s the way you wear it, not the label inside, that impresses.”

INVEST WISELY IN A WATCH

A watch is like a piece of art,” argues Don Cochrane, managing director of British watch brand Vertex. “Choose it because you love it, not because you think it might make money. Watches are personal, it marks your passage through time. But you also have to be practical.” Aesthetic, functional, rugged sports models go with anything and can take the hard knocks of everyday wear. Yet, a watch still has to fit you. It should feel comfortable and be right in terms of size and depth relative to your wrist as well – 40mm is considered the ‘Goldilocks’ size.

3 FALL SHOES TO CARRY YOU THROUGH THE SEASON

3 FALL SHOES TO CARRY YOU THROUGH THE SEASON

I was chatting with a friend, discussing fall shoes, and she asked what shoes she “needed” for the fall/winter. That got me thinking, what are the main shoe trends for the fall? What would I recommend a client buy for this season? What have I purchased this season? Well, it didn’t take long for me to figure it out -ha! I have five main categories, and depending on your lifestyle, you might need a couple of pairs from one section vs. the other. Or you may find that you already have a pair from four out of the five categories! Regardless, I’m sharing my favorites from each category that I’ve found while shopping at Nordstrom

Here are my picks

I like both of these booties because they are classic and don’t have any embellishments that will date them after one season, but I am in love with the
first pair! I love the price point, and they are so comfortable! I also like that you can see the ankle, because it’s more flattering. I also like all the colors this bootie comes in! They remind me of this pair from last season that I recommended because everyone looks so good in them.

Must Read Fashion Magazines for Ambitious Fashion Designers

Must Read Fashion Magazines for Ambitious Fashion Designers

Astudy from 2018 shows that magazine readership is well above 200 million worldwide. Designers can benefit from regularly checking on certain fashion magazines to study the latest trends as well as to obtain knowledge about a variety of industry-related experiences. While there are plenty of other resources available for designers, magazines remain one of the most timeless and consistently relevant sources of trending information.

When it comes to fashion magazines, there are two overarching categories to consider. First are the more well-known titles that have established credibility over many decades. Additionally, there are many independent magazines that can provide more niche and focused information, depending on what the goals of your business are. Overall, you have many magazine options at your disposal, but those listed below provide consistently relevant information and are a great starting point for new designers

Begin by Referencing Well-Known Fashion Magazine Titles

The magazines with long-standing credibility are a good place to start reading or subscribing. This list includes the magazines that provide the most resources for designers, not necessarily every major fashion magazine, as some of those are more appropriate for a casual fashion consumer. The titles below have various types of information worth checking out if you are serious about building a career in fashion design and entrepreneurship. Some of these most well-known fashion magazines are:

  • Elle and InStyle - Elle was founded in 1945 and is now published in 44 different countries. This magazine provides the reader with the latest fashion trends in women’s fashion and relevant women’s issues. Fashion apparel that this magazine focuses on include women’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories trending worldwide. InStyle is another magazine that highlights various trends, just with a bigger focus on celebrities.
  • Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair - Harper’s Bazaar brings tangible advice from world-renown designers and beauty experts. This is a great choice for newer designers to learn from the best in the industry. This is also one of the main magazines that target the upper-middle class, so there may be additional insights regarding luxury brandsVanity Fair is another magazine that provides advice and insights from industry experts as well as maintaining a similar tone to Harper’s Bazaar.
  • Vogue - Vogue is arguably the biggest source for all things women’s fashion. It is likely if you work in the fashion space, you will come across this magazine often anyway. However, it is still important to consider it for all things women’s fashion including news, trends, profiles, and advice.
  • Allure and NewBeauty - Both of these titles promote beauty, health, and wellness for women. Their focus on beauty might give more cultural insights to designers and can be helpful to certain brands that promote similar topics and value aesthetics.
  • Cosmopolitan - Cosmopolitan covers various trends, styles, and news in women’s fashion. This magazine’s readership includes many consumers who like reading about fashion for fun rather than an artistic expression. There can be insights for fashion brands that push a more lighthearted tone in this magazine.
  • GQ and Esquire - Both of these magazines center on men’s fashion. Men’s fashion isn’t covered nearly as much in the fashion magazine space, so if you sell products designed for men, these are the two go-to sources for relevant trends.

The Technology Behind the Ripped Jeans Trend

The Technology Behind the Ripped Jeans Trend

Ripped jeans have been in style since the '70s and have continued in popularity through the 2000s. However, despite the enduringness of the style, the way that fashion producers create ripped jeans has changed throughout the years. Advances in fashion production tech have made it easier for jean companies to produce the ripped jean style.  Here’s where the technology begins, and where it's advanced to today.

The History Of Ripped Jeans

Ripped jeans have always held favor among young people. Many might think that the first pair of ripped jeans was a DIY experiment made using a knife or scissors to create the look; however, that’s not the case. In 1870, a German businessman named Leob (known as Levi Strauss), the owner of Levi Strauss & Co., made the first pairs of known ripped jeans. Levi Strauss was also known for creating customizable trousers for working men.

About a century later, during the era of Punk Rock, ripped jeans became the sign of 1970s youth rebellion and social movement. Later, celebrities like Madonna continued to popularize the ripped trend in pop culture.

Soon after, the trend of DIY ripped and pulled jeans and manufactured ripped jeans started to rise. These trends became an outlet that allowed young people to express how they felt towards society through the use of fashion

How Manufacturers Make Ripped Jeans Today

If you went outside today and observed how many people wear ripped jeans, you could say more than 50 percent. So how are jean companies finding a creative way to make ripped jeans in styles that stand out independently?

While some fashion brands like to create ripped jeans with their hands, other huge fashion brands such as Levi's Strauss & Co. use a laser and abrasion technique to mass produce ripped jeans. This technique requires the denim companies to first have a digitized sketch of the jeans design on which they’ve identified the pattern and placement for the tears. This assures consistency in the product’s mass batch production. Other brands prefer to create their ripped jeans products with varying rips and patterns. These brands use computer programs (similar to Photoshop) to adjust the illustration and design on the jeans before placing them under the laser beam.

Whichever method the company chooses, once the company puts the digital pair of jeans into the computer system to use with the patterns, the actual jeans are placed under a laser beam to have the digitized design traced out. The lasers have an added advantage of burning out the clothing dye on the jeans near the rips to give these areas a paler look.

10 Fashion Tips & Tricks

10 Fashion Tips and Tricks

When it comes to fashion tips, it sometimes seems that everyone and their mother (literally!) has tried-and-true style advice they absolutely swear by. Some are useful, while others … well, not so much. With that in mind, we’ve culled 101 style tips from the best: designers, lifestyle experts and, of course, our staff. Trust us: With these gems, you’ll be well on your way to living your most stylish life.

Despite what it says on the tag, cashmere is best washed by hand. To dry it, use a salad spinner, which releases excess water in seconds.
Use white wine to remove red wine stains. Wash new jeans twice before taking them to the tailor. Why? Because jeans will always shrink in length when washed.
To stop angora or mohair from shedding, fold the garment and place it into a zip-top bag and freeze it for at least three hours.
Remove odors from vintage or thrift clothing by spritzing them with a mixture of one part vodka, two parts water.
“Remove white deodorant marks from a garment by gently rubbing the protective foam used on hangers against the fabric.” — Jonathan Simkhai, designer

If you get an oil stain on your favorite handbag, coat the mark with baby powder and let it stand overnight. By morning, the stain should be gone. If a bit still remains, repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.

To drop bloat five days before a big event, stay away from dairy and whole grains, which can do a number on the digestive system.A useful style tip: While fake designer bags are a huge don’t, fake diamond studs are a huge do. Faux stones are hard to spot to the untrained eye. Dressy occasions aren’t the time to play with trends, so know your silhouette and stick to it to always look your best. Perfect example: Sofia Vergara knows she looks good in mermaid dresses, and always chooses variations of the shape on red carpets.

3 watch trends to know for 2020

3 watch trends to know for 2020
As with so many international events around the world, the luxury watch industry has had to put its usual plans on hold and adapt to the Covid-19 crisis, which comes with strict social-distancing conditions.

Its usual round of trade fairs and annual exhibitions - the most widely known of which are Baselworld and Watches and Wonders Geneva, which were due to take place last month - have had to be cancelled or postponed until next year.

But, just as other industries are eschewing physical (transmittable!) events in favour of digital ad campaigns and look-book shoots, so the latest watches have recently been revealed online, with snappy brand videos and high-resolution photography replacing the 'touch-and-feel' sessions that normally accompany the launch of glamorous new timepieces. So, we've explored them all to bring you our edit of of what to look out for in the coming months.

Borrowed from the boys

Omega's follow up to the 2018 launch of its women's Constellation Manhattan watch is an updated, unisex version of its bestselling Constellation. With signature bezel 'claws' inspired by the frame of a New York shaving mirror - or so the legend goes - and a sleek steel and gold frame with white diamonds on each hour marker, this handsome model will look good on anyone.

Nike Set To Develop Virtual Trainers

Nike Set To Develop Virtual Trainers

American sportswear brand Nike looks set to create a range of digital fashion products after filing a range of trademark applications for virtual trainers and clothes.

At the end of last month, the American company filed seven applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office for use on "downloadable virtual goods" and "online and in online virtual worlds".

The brand's widely recognised tick logo and basketball player logo have been included in the application as well as its Just Do It slogan.

The trainers could be used in the metaverse

Nike's virtual items would allow customers to wear its items in the metaverse – a virtual world where people can experience a parallel life online or using virtual reality or augmented reality.

Trainers such as the Air Max 2090 (pictured), could be redesigned by Nike to be worn in the metaverse.

The brand has also listed a flury of job opportunities related to the virtual design world on its jobs board.

Among them, is a post for a virtual material designer, who would "combine their experience, problem-solving abilities, and creativity to build the future of Nike Footwear materials".

The virtual collections could be sold as NFTs

Virtual shoes and clothing items have the potential to be sold as digital collectables, or non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Products can be identified with digital certificates that indicate the ownership and authenticity of digital assets.

The items are individually recorded or minted on a blockchain, allowing them to be bought, sold and collected.

The New Faces of Street Style

The New Faces of Street Style

BM, Ella Emhoff, Iris Law, and Rickey Thompson: These are names you’ve likely seen or heard while watching music videos, scrolling on IG, or poring over Vogue Runway’s street style galleries. The recent spring season, documented by Styledumonde, is the first in which these faces became “regulars.” Each belongs to a different style camp and offers plenty in the way of wardrobe inspiration for 2022. Meet them, below.
Having modeled in Balenciaga’s couture collection and created a capsule collaboration with Batsheva, Emhoff is no stranger to the fashion scene, but her profile increased when she made the rounds at the men’s collections in Paris last June. On regular rotation in Emhoff’s wardrobe are graphic tees and plaid suits. Her accessory game is strong too.

Best Wedding Planners in the U.S., Canada, and Overseas

Best Wedding Planners in the U.S., Canada, and Overseas

Even the best wedding planners have had a challenging past couple of years as COVID-19 has affected the entire industry. First, there were no weddings, then they were rescheduled, downsized, and “micro-fied.” Now, after almost two years of being in limbo, we’re in the beginning stages of what’s being proclaimed a wedding boom—when nuptials on a Thursday night are the norm and anything goes with regards to the size and spirit of the celebration. Some are taking the “go big or go home” approach because they’ve had to wait so long and are ready to let loose, while others are maintaining a less is more vibe and keeping their event intimate. Either way, the need to find the best wedding planners who can execute the many levels of logistics required of hosting a party during an ongoing global pandemic has never been more profound. Finding someone you gel well with is also imperative. To make the search easier, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of our favorites across the world—we hope it’s helpful as you try to find the one.

JZ Events: Based in New York City

Jennifer Zabinski of JZ Events was the mastermind behind Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s fairy-tale inspired wedding in New Orleans, an evening that was executed flawlessly—we know because we were there! From the surprise video created by Alexis for Serena that ran at the beginning of the ceremony to the actual carousel that appeared for guests like Beyoncé to dance on at the after-party, Zabinski’s efforts were unparalleled, and she did it all in that calm, cool, and collected way that makes her one of the best at what she does.

Relax—Take Pride in Your Beat-Up Bags

Relax—Take Pride in Your Beat-Up Bags

I have a Louis Vuitton bag from the aughties that I have been slugging around for years like an anvil. I stuff it with everything possible: my work laptop, books, packs of opened gum, various chargers, and loose change. Along with a flip-phone pocket on its side, it looks like it is from way back when thanks to its condition. Its orange-brown handle is discolored, the plastic has poked through the piping, and the foot pegs are hanging on by a literal thread.

At the moment, I can’t be bothered to get it repaired. In fact, I’m learning to indulge in its wear and tear. As Y2K It bags are experiencing a revival, I’ve realized I’m not alone. Friends have been sending me photos of their newly unearthed early ’00s Balenciaga City bags or Marc Jacobs Stam bags—all of which are scuffed and scratched. This past Fashion Week, I ran into writer Taylore Scarabelli, who was toting a black Balenciaga bag. She said the carryall “looks even better when it is beat up and dirty

Gravitating Toward Festive Black Dresses This Holiday Season

Gravitating Toward Festive Black Dresses This Holiday Season

This doesn’t always ring true, but for the 2021 holiday season, there’s nothing chicer than black dresses. Think jet-colored gowns for a black-tie gala or sequin- or feather-adorned LBDs worn to festive cocktail parties. And right now there are few things we want to wear more than a velvety black dress.

In years past, holiday dressing meant a spangly silver mini for New Year’s Eve or a holly berry red worn on the night before Christmas; but that was then, and this is now. Black dresses are the ideal reemergence holiday piece. Here’s why: We just experienced more than a year without party stimuli like strobe lights, pumping music, and close proximity to strangers. That time could, for some, be compared to a dive in a sensory-deprivation tank. Because of this, reemergence has recalibrated what we may have once considered mundane to exhilarating. And this includes fashion. Take, for example, the black dress—once a humble closet workhorse that you could rely upon for any occasion, it has now become the ultimate color to don on festive occasions.

The First Pictures of Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes Are Here

The First Pictures of Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes

Few scandals in recent memory have captured the public’s attention quite like the dramatic fall from grace of Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes, of course, is the Silicon Valley entrepreneur whose health-tech start-up, Theranos, falsely promised a revolutionary new blood-testing method and went from being valued at $9 billion—making Holmes the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire—to zero. Following a series of high-profile exposés by The Wall Street Journal, along with the hit podcast The Dropout and Alex Gibney’s documentary The Inventor on HBO, the Theranos debacle became a highlight of 2019’s so-called summer of scam, alongside the dealings of Anna Delvey and Fyre Festival.

Sharon Stone Smolders in a Leopard Print Dress

Sharon Stone Smolders in a Leopard Print Dress

Sharon Stone made a smoldering appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of A24’s The Tragedy of Macbeth last night. The 63-year-old actress donned a leopard print dress with bows knotted at the neck and the stomach. While that all sounds pared back, there were some saucy details. Stone’s dress boasted a high-slit leg slit and a cutout on the chest which showed off her semi-sheer bra. She finished off the look with a tailored black coat over her shoulders, fuchsia hoops, and a ladylike leather top-handle bag.

Recently, Stone’s fashion choices have been bold. She opted for an animal print suit a few weeks ago at the premiere of King Richard, and at the Pride of Britain awards in early November, she walked the red carpet in an elegant Vera Wang gown with a cinched waist. A fashion favorite, she also wore a glittering Thom Browne gown to the Met Gala this past year.

Priyanka Chopra Heats Things Up in a Red-Hot Suit

Priyanka Chopra Heats Things Up in a Red-Hot Suit

This morning in New York, Priyanka Chopra kicked off the press tour for her new (and much-anticipated) film, The Matrix Resurrections. Sure, it may be December, but that didn’t stop the star from bringing the heat. Chopra opted for red-hot suiting that stood out among the sea of black puffers that real New Yorkers enjoy wearing.

Chopra’s fiery tailored blazer and long, billowy trousers are fresh off the runway from Sergio Hudson’s fall 2021 collection. Chopra wore them just like they appeared on the catwalk, finished off with a thin patent belt with a rounded buckle. For a movie star-worthy finish, she infused her own personality into the look via big glamorous shades and sky-high platforms.
